Deufol: Gas and air quality measurements
Logistics and packaging specialist Deufol handles a wide range of goods flows. Some of these goods are delivered in containers that contain hazardous gases at times. To protect workers, Arizo not only helped with the measurements but also provided training so that employees can use the specialised measuring equipment themselves.
As a logistics and packaging specialist, Deufol sees to it that goods reach their final destination in perfect condition. This process is not without risks however, as Ralph Mertens, Business Development Manager at Deufol, explains: “We regularly receive shipments with these goods flows where we are not sure whether dangerous gases are still present in the containers.”
In an effort to protect workers, Arizo provided assistance to measure the gas and air quality when the containers were received as well as when they were stored in the warehouse. Specialised measuring equipment were deployed on Deufol’s work floor, and Arizo's gas experts conducted on-site measurements.
An initial risk analysis was followed by training for employees on how to use the measuring equipment, “so that our own staff can measure efficiently and with one hundred percent certainty,” says Ralph Mertens.
At Arizo, we always develop bespoke solutions for the work floor as well as ad hoc processes. The risk at Deufol lay with the incoming containers. Air samples from the containers were analysed, the hazardous substances mapped, and exposure measured during unloading to fine tune and make the unloading procedure safer.
Gas measurements are now a standard part of the unloading and acceptance process. The optimisation has alleviated employee concerns and increased support for safety measures.
