Exposure measurements
Risk of exposure to chemicals
People are exposed to chemical vapours more frequently in industry, production halls, and warehouses. So don’t take any chance, whether as a preventive measure or in response to health complaints, but start exposure measurements today. The occupational hygienists at Arizo help you ensure healthy air quality.
What does the law say?
Occupational exposure measurements are mandatory. As an employer, you must measure the exposure of your employees to chemicals on a regular basis. Standard EN 689 outlines the strategy to follow for these measurements in 4 steps:
- Step 1: Inventory and assessment of exposure
- Step 2: Measuring personal exposure – If Step 1 shows a risk
- Step 3: Statistical evaluation of the results from Step 2 – If Step 2 was carried out
- Step 4: Repetition depending on the measurement results

Types of exposure measurements
Stationary measurements
With these preliminary measurements, you can easily list and determine exposure to chemicals in the workplace (Step 1). The ideal tool for this purpose is the DIY stationary VOC measurement. It is specially designed to obtain an inventory and risk assessment relating to vapours and gases with a single measurement. Here are the advantages in a nutshell:
- Always available
Order the measurements you want to carry out and Arizo will send you the necessary materials, so you will have everything on hand and can decided when to measure.
- All gases and vapours in 1 measurement
Send the air sample you have taken to Arizo for an analysis of all the gases and vapours.
- Reporting with assessment
The results from the Arizo laboratory are assessed by our occupational hygienists. You can expect the results including the threshold values and the exposure risk assessment in your inbox. Please feel free to contact us if you have further questions. We will be delighted to assist you.
- Risk management
There is also the option of linking the exposure risk to the readings from a portable measuring device, so you can monitor it in the workplace.
If no exposure risk is identified, the complete risk analysis is performed without any personal exposure measurements which are expensive and have an impact on your employees.

Personal exposure measurements
When a stationary measurement reveals an exposure risk, personal exposure measurements are mandatory (Step 2). You can then proceed with the DIY personal VOC measurement, developed to measure exposure to chemical vapours in the breathing zone of your employees.
After a brief training session from our occupational hygienists, you, as a prevention advisor or production manager, can carry out these measurements yourself, thereby saving significant costs for your employer.
Exposure to chemicals through aerosols
The DIY VOC measurement can chart all gases and vapours for stationary as well as exposure measurements. More is required, however, if the exposure to chemicals occurs through aerosols – small solid or liquid particles suspended in the air such as particulate matter, i.e. specific samples and analyses which will be carried out on your premises by the industrial hygienists from Arizo.
