Deufol: Gas and air quality measurements
PIVO organises training sessions for firefighters. The controlled fires on their grounds produce smoke that enters the adjacent offices, causing concern among the staff. We therefore conducted an urgent air quality analysis.
PIVO – the Provinciaal Instituut voor Vorming en Opleiding [Provincial Institute for Training and Education] in Flemish Brabant – organises firefighter training. The smoke produced during these training sessions caused odour issues in the buildings and raised concerns about potential health effects among employees.
An urgent air quality analysis was needed in order to protect them from potentially harmful substances. “We asked Arizo to come and carry out measurements in those offices,” says Wenke Devriese of PIVO.
Shortly after PIVO's call, one of our experts departed for an air analysis in Asse. Wenke Devriese: “They showed up the next day after we made our request. We were very impressed.”
Once on site, the expert went to work with the Air Quality Monitor (AQM). This specialised measuring device checks ten parameters to provide a detailed picture of indoor air quality, namely: carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), humidity, temperature, and three types of particulate matter. The VOCs present were analysed further in our in-house laboratory to assess the health risks.
A week later, PIVO received a comprehensive report detailing the results of the various parameters measured. Such a report is moreover always supplemented with tips and recommendations: “Very practical advice that we could implement immediately,” says Wenke Devriese. “We were also invited to contact Arizo anytime if we had any questions about the report,” she adds.
